About

Keōua Hōnaunau Canoe Club, founded in 1974, is a small-sized club with about 100-150 active members. Located in South Kona at beautiful Honaunau Bay, next to Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, we welcome new paddlers of any age to join us.

We are honored to paddle in some of the most pristine, splendid and sacred waters in all of Hawai‘i. Our fleet of canoes includes practice boats, racers, and three custom-built koa canoes, Hōnaunau, our first koa,  Ka’ahumanu, an HCRA-approved racing koa and a seasoned veteran of several Moloka’i channel races – the Moloka‘i Hoe and Na Wahine O Ke Kai, and our newest Koa racer, Ale’ale’a.

Many club members also participate in the OC1/2 & Va’a racing season, or paddle OC1/2’s & Va’a recreationally.  Storage for these boats are available at the halau to club members only (membership dues plus boat storage rack fee).

Information about club dues and boat racks can be found on our Join Keoua page.

Club Fundraisers

Keōua Hōnaunau Canoe Club will host two major fundraisers this year: the Mac-a-Thon 5K-10K running event (Hawai‘i Island’s oldest foot race!) and Mac Nut Pancake Breakfast, held on the Saturday before Easter, and the annual memorial Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Race and Luau, held late August (see our race schedule for exact date). All club members are expected to help at every fundraiser possible.

We also welcome your HI-5 recycles, which are used to finance expenses for the Youth program. (Drop-off bins on halau grounds.)

For more information about joining, please feel free to call Jene’ Green at 808-443-4670 or send an email to contact@keouacanoeclub.com.
